What is a TGE? What happens after a points program ends
TGE means Token Generation Event: the moment a project's token is created and becomes available. For airdrop hunters it is the date everything is decided.
The usual order of events
- Points program. Activity is recorded as points. Points are not a token.
- Program ends. The project stops adding points and may run a final distribution or competition.
- Rules published. The team announces how points convert to tokens, who is eligible and when claiming opens.
- TGE. The token is created. Claiming and trading follow, usually on a date announced in advance.
A real example: Extended
- Extended's official docs say weekly points distributions have ended, with about 69.2 million of the 70 million cap distributed by October 6, 2026.
- A final distribution follows its Final ARC Trading Competition.
- Extended has since announced its token XTEN for November 2026, with 30% of the genesis supply for eligible points participants. As of this update there is still no exact TGE date and claims are not open.
What to keep in mind
Between the end of a program and the TGE there can be a long wait with no date. Do not rely on rumours, and only trust dates announced on the project's official site or account.
