Why Linera shut down: a lesson for airdrop hunters
Linera, a Layer 1 blockchain backed by a16z crypto and Borderless Capital that had raised $12 million, ceased operations in mid-September 2026.
What happened
- Linera opened a community round for its planned LNRA token in early September 2026.
- The round raised about $848,000 against a $1.5 million minimum, so it did not close and contributors were refunded.
- The team could not secure further funding to reach mainnet and announced that it was ceasing operations (reported September 18–19, 2026). No token was ever launched.
What it means for airdrop hunters
- Big-name backers are not a guarantee. Funding helps, but a project can still run out of money before it launches.
- Testnet points can end up worth nothing. Any time spent was a free bet, which is why we only recommend free or low-cost activity.
- Watch for paid sales. A token sale is not an airdrop. When Linera opened a paid sale we flagged it on AirdropsRadar.
